Psalm 79 is a lament over the destruction of Jerusalem. It attributes this great tragedy to the sinfulness of God’s covenant people. Without a thought of self-deliverance, the psalmist appeals to God to provide atonement for sin. He alone removes sin, and the New Testament reveals He did so conclusively through the atoning sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ.
