Persecuted and Preserved

Exodus chapters 1–2 narrate God's initial fulfillment of His promise to produce a people for Himself from the patriarch Abraham. At the same time, these chapters stress God's preservation of His oppressed people and His act of raising up a deliverer—Moses.
